Today sees a change in the rules regarding what happens to the assets of someone who dies without leaving a will. Without a will an estate passes to family members using strict criteria in law. Read the changes to the laws of intestacy to see if you would be happy to continue without having made a will.
In extreme circumstances where a person dies intestate and no family members can be traced the estate passes to the government. At the moment over 11,000 names of such people are listed on the governments Bona Vacantia website waiting for their estate to be claimed.
It was from this list that I picked a name in 2010. What followed is the subject of my book SEEKING JOHN CAMPBELL about which I will post more in the future.
