Searching the Pembertons

I established that the mother of my subject was Gladys Pemberton and needed to know if she had any other children or if any of her siblings had children who might be heirs to the estate.  It was a search that lasted months as the Pembertons were a large family linking to Ireland, Canada and the USA.

Gladys was one of eight children, her father was one of fifteen and her grandfather one of eighteen! Her great grandfather, Joseph, was mayor of Dublin in 1806 and her first cousin once removed Joseph Despard Pemberton (see below) was surveyor to the Hudson Bay Company and was responsible for laying out the site for the city of Victoria. The town of Pemberton in Canada is named after him

Most of my initial research was carried out using the subscription service of Ancestry.co.uk. Their blog provides some tips on searching their database. Use this link. Top 20 Search Tips.
